ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION

Knysna Estate is set on a secluded 3-hectare estate just 5 minutes from the centre of Knysna, a quaint seaside town widely regarded as the jewel of the Garden Route.  Knysna Estate re-opened in October 2018 as a brand-new contemporary retreat offering stylish accommodation with warm personal service and authentic dining in our casual restaurant.

Situated in the middle of the iconic Garden Route National Park of the Southern Cape Coast, Knysna is the ideal base from which to explore the myriad of attractions the region has to offer. The history of Mossel Bay, the arid, semi-desert of Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo and the coastal towns of Wilderness, Sedgefield and Plettenberg Bay are all within an hour’s drive, as is Tsitsikamma National Park which is renowned for the Storm’s River Mouth and some of the country’s best hiking trails.

A standout amongst Knysna hotels, the 44 contemporary Garden Suites are situated in our lush gardens and offer all modern amenities in a spacious and serene environment. These modern, air-conditioned rooms each feature satellite television, Nespresso® coffee stations, laptop safes, mini-bar fridges, L’Occitane guest amenities, king-size beds and private patios overlooking the gardens with two sparkling swimming pools.

The modern Cape Country Manor House is the focal point of the Estate and houses all the public areas – restaurant, bar, reception, sun deck and internet library. The casual restaurant serves authentic, local food throughout the day and the bar is the ideal spot to enjoy an ice-cold Craft Beer on tap or a bespoke Gin & Tonic. The wine list offers a range of unique South African wines from independent estates and the small wine cellar provides the option of choosing a premium, aged wine to enjoy on that special occasion.

The town of Knysna is a 5-minute drive from Knysna Estate and offers an eclectic mix of shops, boutiques and restaurants. The world-renowned craft markets feature hand-made art from the local community and for an authentic ‘living-local’ experience including a ‘Shebeen’ meal, a Township Tour is a must.

The Knysna Waterfront and Thesen Islands also offer all-day waterside shopping and dining options, as well as a variety of activities and excursions including ocean-based whale-watching in season, lagoon cruises and sailing charters.

SUITES

Knysna Estate accommodates guests in 44 spacious, contemporary garden suites, all elegantly decorated in subtle hues of the surrounding forests and ocean. These modern Garden Suites offer air-conditioning, satellite television, Nespresso® coffee stations, tea kettle, laptop safes, mini-bar fridges (stocked on request), hair-driers, telephones and private patios with outdoor seating overlooking the gardens and the two sparkling swimming pools. USB charging points are located at the dressing table and at each bedside table and LED accent lighting is a feature of the headboards above the king-size, extra-length beds. All rooms ioffer large en-suite bathrooms with double ‘His & Her’ vanities, heated towel rails, L’Occitane guest amenities and a spacious walk-in ‘rain’ shower.

Four adjoining rooms offer inter-leading passageways and can be converted into two double-room Family Suites. Another 8 rooms offer sleeper couch sofas which can be converted into beds for up to two children under 12 years sharing with their parents.

THE SUPERIOR GARDEN SUITE

These king-size bedded superior suites are 50m2 in size and have an en-suite bathroom with double basins and walk-in showers. These suites feature modern furnishings and offer flat-screen televisions with satellite channels, custom sideboards with Nespresso coffee stations and a mini-bar fridge (stocked on request), air-conditioning, open-plan lounge area, private covered balconies, electronic room safe, bathrobes, slippers and Charlotte Rhys guest amenities.

ACTIVITIES

Both Knysna and the Garden Route offer an amazing array of exciting activities and excursions and we will gladly assist in making the arrangements for your memorable holiday moments. Knysna itself is situated in the heart of the Garden Route National Park, which stretches from Mossel Bay in the West to Tsitsikamma in the East, all easily accessible in a day’s outing in either direction.

Beautiful salt-water estuaries and sandy Indian Ocean beaches frame one side of Knysna and the Garden Route while the other side consists of wild, indigenous forests and beautiful, rugged mountains known as the Outeniqua Mountain Range.

Knysna is steeped in early Timber merchant history and no visit to Knysna is complete without a visit to the Millwood Gold Fields and the forest hikes of the Gouna area.  Knysna Town is home to the Knysna Waterfront, a marina-style development with local shops and eateries, while Thesen Islands offers contemporary dining and shopping.

The Knysna Heads are an iconic attraction looming large over the notoriously-dangerous channel between the Indian Ocean and the Knysna Estuary – breathtakingly beautiful and with amazing vistas towards the ocean and Knysna itself from the various viewpoints at The Heads.

Plettenberg Bay is located 30km from Knysna and is a quaint beachside town that offers an eclectic mix of design shops, restaurants and local art & craft.  Plettenberg Bay is also famous for Robberg Nature Reserve, a spectacular cliffside hiking trail and numerous wine farms located in The Crags, near Nature’s Valley just outside town.

Oudtshoorn is a desert town located 1,5 hour’s drive from Knysna in the Little Karoo and is an excellent option for a fun-filled day trip that includes visiting an Ostrich Farm, the world-famous Cango Caves and some truly awe-inspiring mountain passes (Meiringspoort Pass, Price Alfred Pass etc.) that link up to charming villages such as De Rust and Prins Albert.
